I’ve been having lots of ups and downs with my health for the last several months. I’m certain the move and the associated stresses have something to do with it, but in general, I’m not making the best choices with my food and energy. My thyroid disease is a moving target – Hashimoto’s tends to fluctuate between hypo (underactive) and hyper (overactive) thyroid levels. One of the best sites I’ve found online for explaining all the intricate ins and outs of Hashi’s is at ChrisKresser.com. He was formerly known as the Healthy Skeptic, and his site was invaluable in helping me understand the complexities of this disease. I’m still working at incorporating his suggestions into my daily life. It really is two steps forward, one step back sometimes. But the key? Keep moving forward.

So, time to kick it up a bit and get back in the game of taking care of me.

I signed up awhile ago for a green smoothie challenge, and then promptly forgot about it. Well, the email came last night and let me know that it’s time to start! Four days of prep followed by three days of green smoothies for all meals. That part I didn’t know! I can for sure do breakfast and lunch – we’ll see about dinner. Curt has already said he won’t do green smoothies for dinner so either I’ll haul out leftovers for him or join him for a light meal in the evening. I’ll figure that out when I get there.

I’ve been doing smoothies for some time now but mostly protein drinks. I haven’t really added greens to them, although I’ve tried from time to time. I’m definitely a sweet taster, and struggle to get veggies in my diet at each meal – I’m lucky if I hit a small serving at dinner. Definitely need to work on that. I’m not about to go all raw (I love roast beef too much, come on now!) but I don’t like salads too much (only in summer, really) so I need a way to get leafy greens into my system.

The program I’m doing is by Tera Warner – here’s the info. Feel free to join in if you like! http://www.terawarner.com/free3

I’ve always like the image of the phoenix rising from the ashes — in the face of adversity, out comes beauty. This is nowhere near as tragic as all that, though. My site was compromised and I had to start over again. Because it’s a personal site, I didn’t backup my .xml (data) file often enough, and because I am an errant blogger, I hadn’t written anything for awhile. All this to say it’s clean slate time.

I’m not promising regular updates or witty banter. I like writing but honestly, life gets in the way these days. And my energy bank is struggling with inadequate deposits, to boot. So, I’ll do my best. I like blogging because it’s good for me, but I am not always that good about doing things that are good for me. For example:

staying away from sugar

exercising regularly

not worrying

giving myself a break

So I’ll work on these things, and will start sharing stuff I find interesting, off-kilter or otherwise again.

Thyroid status report: sputtering, with a dash of fatigue. Hashimoto’s, you suck.
