Working together

Work is more pleasant when shared.

Just got back from a relatively spontaneous yet planned trip to Ikea. Planned in that Curt emailed me yesterday about some thoughts he had about some of our furniture, spontaneous in that I didn’t expect we would go there today. But we did, and all is good. We picked up a small shelving unit to replace a bookshelf in our living room. The bookshelf will go elsewhere in the house. This will help open up the room even more and let us keep the laptop out there where it will be used more.

We also picked up a new slipcover for our Ektorp loveseat, in the “as-is” section. Today’s lesson is that “as-is” means just that – it was missing a seat cushion. There was absolutely no mention of that on the packaging, so we are going to try to take it back and see what we can do. That part kind of sucked.

The good part is that we picked up some nice art (a large print with red poppies) for over the TV in the family room, and it really brings out some great colour and “pop” in the room now. It’s amazing what a bit of colour and texture will do for spicing up the room.

It was nice to hang out with my husband today. It reminded me that we’ve been working hard at working well together, for 10 years now. Work is work, no doubt about that, and when you own a home it never ever ends. There are lists of projects a mile long, and they will likely not all get done. But we share pride of ownership and try to do what we can to make our home comfortable and beautiful. It’s our refuge, after all!

The picture for this post was taken at my workplace, Van Belle Nursery. One of the best parts of my job is that I get to regularly walk the nursery (three large locations) and take pictures of all the flowers and plants. Sometimes I catch moments of nature at work, like these bees working hard to gather pollen. It reminds me that small acts are as important as big ones – and to keep on pushing ahead even when the list of “to dos” seems daunting. Small steps get us to the finish line too.

IKEA is a great place, but hard to remove ones self without a few extras, beyond what you went there for ! We have also been very nearly taken in, by the AS IS section, which should perhaps have the disclaimer, Caveat Emptor ~ Buyer Beware. It is a great place to go, and somehow easier to visualize what the things might look like, in your house !

Sounds like you had a nice mellow day… that’s what weekends are all about !

    Cheers !

    PS Beautiful picture !
